Working in tandem with the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, the region’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, UPMC Hillman Cancer Center at UPMC McKeesport provides the latest advances in cancer prevention, detection, diagnosis, staging, and treatment, as well as access to experimental treatment options at a convenient, community-based location.
Committed to advancing cancer care, our oncologists work closely with specialists from other UPMC Hillman Cancer Center locations. Through weekly tumor boards and patient conferences, our dedicated physicians strive to develop individualized, comprehensive treatment plans for each cancer patient. Services at our oncology office include outpatient chemotherapy and a complete line of educational resources.
Radiation oncologists at the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center at UPMC McKeesport are dedicated to precisely targeting and treating cancer. Working in tandem with the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, the region’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Hillman Cancer Center, UPMC Hillman Cancer Center at UPMC McKeesport provides the latest advances in cancer treatment close to home. Weekly tumor conferences support our physicians in collaborating to provide individualized, comprehensive treatment plans for each cancer patient. To achieve this, when treating patients, our physicians offer the total package including medical expertise and cutting-edge radiation techniques. Therapies include intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), and brachytherapy.
IMRT includes specialized planning and treatment to target complex areas while minimizing the amount of radiation delivered to normal tissue. Pre-treatment CT scans are used to out the target area (tumor) and areas that should be avoided (normal tissue). Complex radiation plans are then devised to deliver this specialized type of radiation. Our board-certified radiation oncologists, available for both inpatient and outpatient consultations, are supported by a team of dedicated nurses and therapists who specialize in radiation oncology.
