PITTSBURGH – UPMC physicians make up 79% of the 2020 Pittsburgh Magazine listing of Best Doctors — annually published in its May issue. The list is a selection of the region’s top physicians compiled by Best Doctors of America Inc.
Of the 725 doctors named, more than 500 are UPMC doctors across 73 areas of expertise. Only those physicians who earn the consensus support of their peers and who meet additional qualifications are included, comprising only 5% of doctors in the U.S.
“This impressive recognition of so many UPMC physicians as Best Doctors reinforces the pride that we have in our devoted medical staff, who deliver essential and highly advanced care to our patients,” said Steven D. Shapiro, M.D., executive vice president, chief medical and scientific officer and president Health Services Division, UPMC. “We are exceptionally grateful for all 89,000 of our employees, especially now as they work tirelessly to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.”
