HARRISBURG, Pa. – All UPMC hospitals in south-central Pennsylvania now provide MyChart Bedside to their patients, which provides instant access to health information and educational benefits about their condition on a tablet or mobile application.
Using MyChart Bedside, patients can view their labs, test results, vital signs, medications, prescription refill requests and upcoming hospital schedule and appointments. Patients may also learn about their medical condition and medications, record important information, send messages to their nurses and doctors and learn more about the hospitals’ medical team.
“MyChart Bedside will help to inform and empower patients by allowing them to review their medical information throughout their hospital stay,” said Salim Saiyed, M.D., vice president and system chief medical information officer, UPMC Pinnacle. “UPMC Pinnacle staff are always readily available to answer questions, but our patients have appreciated the app’s added convenience. It’s just another step in providing enhanced information and communication for our patients.”
All clinical information or notes obtained during the hospital stay on MyChart Bedside are stored on the patients’ personal electronic health record for further use.
Evidence shows patients who are more informed and engaged in their care are more likely to experience better outcomes, lower costs and increased patient satisfaction. While the existing MyPinnacleHealth patient portal gives patients access to their medical information after office visits, MyChart Bedside brings this service to hospitalized patients.
MyChart Bedside is available to patients at UPMC Carlisle, UPMC Hanover, UPMC Lititz, UPMC Memorial, UPMC Pinnacle Community Osteopathic, UPMC Pinnacle Harrisburg and UPMC Pinnacle West Shore.
