Rehabilitation, both inpatient and outpatient, is a form of therapy designed to help you recover from an illness, serious injury, or surgery. Through rehabilitation, you can learn to regain body movements and fine-motor skills, and learn new ways of doing things you did before.
At UPMC, our rehabilitation providers cover a range of specialties, such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. Our 5 West Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit is located at UPMC Williamsport. UPMC in the Susquehanna region has thirteen outpatient rehabilitation centers in north central Pa., providing comprehensive care that’s close to home.
Inpatient rehabilitation is often confused with skilled nursing. Both inpatient rehab and skilled nursing rehab at UPMC have the same goal: getting you back on your feet. Each facility offers a different level of care designed for a different type of patient. Knowing your options and which type of care is best for you or your family member will help ensure the quickest path to a full recovery.
As opposed to inpatient facilities, our outpatient rehabilitation locations offer shorter, less intensive individualized therapies for acute or chronic illness and injury, as well as specialty therapies for Parkinson's disease, hand injuries, and more.
