Launch Your Health Care Career with Tuition Reimbursement
UPMC in Central Pa. offers a program to help you begin a rewarding career in health care.
UPMC Scholars Program graduates who are hired by UPMC can receive reimbursements for their education costs.
How the Program Works
To start, sign up for one of the participating programs at schools in the region, listed below. Then go through the normal payment and financial assistance program to attend school. After you successfully complete your program and are hired at UPMC, you will receive a reimbursement each pay period which, in total, will equal the cost of your education.
In return, you commit to a multi-year work agreement at UPMC, typically two or three years.
This program supports careers in high-demand fields, including:
- Surgical Technician, Central Penn College.
- Pharmacy Technician, Harrisburg Area Community College.
- Phlebotomist, Central Penn College.
- Radiology Technician, Harrisburg Area Community College.
- Respiratory Therapist, Millersville University.
- Respiratory Therapist, Harrisburg Area Community College, St. Joseph's University Lancaster.
- Cardiac Sonography, St. Joseph's University Lancaster and Harrisburg Area Community College.
- Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Harrisburg Area Community College.
- Cardiovascular Technologists-Invasive, Harrisburg Area Community College.
- Computed Tomography Technician, Harrisburg Area Community College.
- MRI Technician, Harrisburg Area Community College.

Medical assistant training
The Medical Assistant Academy runs at various times throughout the year, and those interested in applying should continue to search “Medical Assistant Trainee" on the UPMC Careers website throughout the year for current opportunities.
Nursing career path
The UPMC Shadyside School of Nursing at UPMC Harrisburg, in partnership with Harrisburg University, provides an accelerated 16-month Registered Nurse (RN) diploma program. Scholarship and work-study options may be available.

EMT Academy
UPMC EMT Academy is an intensive, 10-week program that includes classroom work, written exams, skills education, and testing, and a one-day immersive training session designed to mimic a real shift. Those who are accepted into the program are paid during training, with an offer of employment upon successful EMT certification. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and have a high school diploma (or the equivalent). The EMT Academy runs at various times throughout the year, and those interested in applying should continue to search “EMT Intern” on the UPMC Careers website throughout the year for current opportunities.

Have you ever thought about starting a rewarding career in health care? You’ll find diverse and in-demand career opportunities for individuals from all educational backgrounds. And UPMC in Central Pa., with support from the UPMC Pinnacle Foundation, is making it easy to get started.
Through our UPMC Scholars Program, we will reimburse you for the cost of your tuition after graduation and upon employment at UPMC. In return, we ask that you work at UPMC in Central Pa. for a period of time. This is usually two to three years.
Also, there may be opportunities to work at UPMC while attending school, helping you gain experience and earn income.
