Application and Admissions Process: UPMC Advanced Practice Provider Neonatology Fellowship Program

The admissions process is highly selective, and applicants must meet the following qualifications to be eligible to apply:

  • The applicant must be a graduate of, or currently a second-year student in, an Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) accredited Physician Assistant Program
  • The applicant must have passed, or be eligible for, the Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam (PANCE)

Applicants will need to complete a two-step application process as below:

  1. Submit electronic application information for the UPMC Advanced Practice Provider Neonatology Fellowship Program, apply online here.
  2. Applicants will submit the following materials in their entirety by postal mail or email (menkm3@upmc.edu):
    • Copies of Pennsylvania Act 33, 34, and 73 clearances
    • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
    • Personal statement describing your desire to subspecialize in neonatology
    • Official transcripts from Physician Assistant Program
    • Copy of Basic Life Support (BLS) card
    • Three letters of recommendation (including one from program director or clinical coordinator and another preferred from neonatal/pediatric rotation)

Incomplete applications will not be considered

Admission information:

  • Selection is based on three basic parameters: (1) academic achievement assessed from college/program records; (2) interpersonal skills as noted in letters of recommendations and personal interview; (3) a strong desire to work in neonatology. No person is excluded from considerations on grounds of sex, race, and/or religious belief. All applicants are reviewed by a panel of the administrative staff, NICU attendings and APPs. Candidates are selected for interview based on an evaluation of their academic record, curriculum vitae, personal statement, and letters of recommendation.
  • Application cycles close February and July
  • Available for an in-person or virtual interview during the months of February and July
  • Projected start dates of late spring and late fall in accordance with licensing and credentialing timelines
