UPMC ME is a participating member of the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and all applicants for first-year positions must register with these programs.
Recruitment is coordinated by each individual program. Requests for additional information about all programs should be addressed to the Program Director to which application is desired. All of our training programs maintain their own websites.
Employment contracts are generated by UPMC ME following either a formal match or other formal offer of employment by a non-match participating program.
Employment contracts are generated annually for each subsequent year of employment based on successful completion of all program and institutional requirements.
Details about this process, including licensing and all appropriate human resource requirements will be communicated electronically with all matched applicants by the GME office.
Trinity Health System Announcement
UPMC and CommonSpirit Health have signed a definitive agreement to transfer ownership of Trinity Health System, including Trinity West, Trinity East, Trinity St. Clairsville Neighborhood Hospital, Trinity Twin City Medical Center, and associated clinics and residency programs, to UPMC. The transaction is expected to be completed in Fall 2026, pending regulatory review and customary closing conditions.
While our hospital systems may have different histories, we have always shared a common vision for our training programs. UPMC Medical Education looks forward to continuing that mission in training our future generations of physicians to care for our communities.
Those applying to Trinity Health System’s Emergency Medicine residency program must apply through the Residency Centralized Application Service (ResidencyCAS). Those applying to Trinity Health System’s Internal Medicine residency program must apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Until the transfer of ownership is effective, Trinity Health System’s salary structure, benefits, contract template and policies will apply to residents accepted into those programs.
Following the transfer, UPMC Medical Education’s contract template, policies and benefits will apply to the Trinity residency programs. Summaries of those can be found here. Additionally, information pertaining to salary and program specific resources following the transfer can be found on the Trinity Health System website.
We encourage you to revisit the UPMC Medical Education website in early October for updated information.
