Visitor Information at UPMC Bedford

UPMC Bedford allows patients to have visitors during their stay to provide emotional support.

Patients (or their representatives, where appropriate) have the right to receive visitors they choose — either verbally or in writing — including, but not limited to:

  • Spouses
  • Domestic partners (including same-sex domestic partners)
  • Other family members
  • Friends

If a minor accompanies a visitor, a responsible adult (not including the patient) must escort and supervise the minor during visitation.

Visiting Hours at UPMC Bedford

During general visiting hours — 1 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

You can access the hospital through the:

  • Main Entrance
  • Outpatient Registration Entrance
  • Emergency Department

After midnight

Visitors arriving after midnight must use the Emergency Department entrance only.

UPMC Bedford Emergency Department staff will:

  • Identify and direct visitors to the appropriate location.
  • Alert security of visitors that access the hospital between midnight and 4 a.m.

Overnight visitors

If visitors wish to remain overnight, they must inform the patient's nursing supervisor.

The nursing supervisor will notify security of all overnight guests.

Visitor Privileges

UPMC Bedford does not restrict, limit, or deny visitor privileges on the basis of:

  • Age
  • Culture
  • Language
  • Race
  • Color
  • National origin
  • Religion
  • Sex
  • Sexual orientation
  • Gender identity or expression of gender
  • Socioeconomic status
  • Disability

All visitors that the patient designates will enjoy the same visitation privileges as those of immediate family members.

UPMC Bedford Visitation Restrictions

UPMC Bedford may impose reasonable, clinically necessary restrictions or limitations on visitation based on the following:

  • Any court order limiting or restraining contact.
  • Threatening or violent behavior that presents a direct risk or threat to patients, UPMC Bedford hospital staff, or others in the immediate environment.
  • Behavior that disrupts the functioning of the patient care unit.
  • Patient’s need or request for privacy or rest.
  • Patient’s risk of infection by the visitor or visitor’s risk of infection by the patient.
  • Extraordinary protections because of a pandemic or infectious disease outbreak.
  • Visitation that may interfere with the care of other patients. This includes reasonable limits on the number of guests at any one time.

Some reasons for restricted visitation include:

  • Patient confidentiality.
  • Frequent care needs of patients.
  • The risk of increased stimulation adversely affecting some patients.
