Meet Our Heart Experts

Join us from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 22, at Homewood at Spring House Estates in Everett for a presentation on heart health. Meet your local team of heart experts, part of the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute, and learn about the latest advancements in care and treatment options available across our region. Our doctors will talk about the signs and symptoms of common heart problems and will provide tips for how to reduce your risk of heart disease through healthy lifestyle choices. Multiphasic Blood Screening

The screenings involve a series of 28 tests, including cholesterol and triglycerides. Patients must fast for 12 hours and consume no alcohol for 24 hours prior to screening.

Cost is $25 for blood screening and $3 for urinalysis. Other tests available include TSH to check thyroid function for an additional $5, A1C to test for diabetic compliance for $5, and PSA for prostate cancer for $10. For an additional $3, test results can be sent to the patient.

UPMC Bedford has earned Advanced Disease-Specific Care Certification for Acute Stroke Ready Hospital from The Joint Commission and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. The certification recognizes hospitals equipped to treat stroke patients with timely, evidence-based care prior to transferring them to a Primary or Comprehensive Stroke Center.

UPMC Bedford underwent a rigorous onsite review to assess its compliance with the Joint Commission’s Advanced Disease-Specific Care certification requirements, including:

  • A dedicated stroke-focused program
  • Staffing by qualified medical professionals trained in stroke care
  • Collaboration with local emergency management agencies
  • 24/7 ability to perform rapid diagnostic and laboratory testing
  • Ability to administer intravenous clot-busting medications to eligible patients
  • Availability of telemedicine technology
