Jim Fiorenzo, who has served as president of UPMC Hamot since 2012, in January 2017 announced that he will retire in June 2017, after 42 years of service at UPMC Hamot.

During Fiorenzo’s presidency, patient volumes at UPMC Hamot have reached all-time highs as the hospital continues to advance and thrive as a tertiary care center, keeping specialty care close to home. Fiorenzo has led UPMC Hamot on a number of major projects and initiatives including:

  • Recruiting dozens of new physicians and clinical specialists, including those in women’s health, neurosurgery, pediatrics, behavioral health, pain management and critical care, as well as primary care.
  • The planning, construction and opening of the state-of-the-art Magee-Womens, UPMC Hamot.
  • The successful integration of WCA Hospital, now known as UPMC Chautauqua WCA, in Jamestown, N.Y., into the UPMC network.
  • The clinical and management affiliation of Kane Community Hospital.
  • The affiliation of Safe Harbor Behavioral Health.
  • Construction of the Bayview Center Professional Building.
  • $153 million in improvements to the hospital’s clinical facilities, physical plant, technology and infrastructure to improve patient care, including the construction of the Bayview Centre and the new patient lobby and healing garden.
  • More than $25 million annually in community benefits, including charity care and unreimbursed amounts for programs for the poor, community health programs and donations, and medical research and education.
  • Building of the new patient lobby and healing garden.

Fiorenzo began his career at UPMC Hamot as a staff pharmacist in 1975. Before becoming UPMC Hamot’s president, he had served in various roles, including chief operating officer, senior vice president of Strategic and Support Services, president of Regional Health Services, president of Great Lakes Home Healthcare Services, Bayside Pharmacy and Physician Supply, and associate director of Pharmacy and Drug Information Services. Fiorenzo graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy and earned an MBA from Gannon University.

Actively involved in the community, he will continue to serve on the boards of Boys & Girls Club of Erie, and the Erie Regional Chamber and Growth Partnership.
