Introducing the UPMC Visitor Management System
As part of UPMC’s commitment to the safety and well-being of patients, visitors, and staff, UPMC Hamot is introducing the Certify Visitor Management System for visitors to inpatient units. This system uses electronic kiosks to register visitors, conduct a security check through internal systems using photo identification, and issue visitor passes through a secure check-in process.
Where Visitors Will Check In
Kiosks will be installed at the main hospital lobby entrance and at the entrance to Magee-Womens at UPMC Hamot. Staff-supported check-in also will occur in the Emergency Department
How the Check-In Process Works
- Visitors will enter the PIN associated with the patient and the patient’s last name.
- If you do not have the PIN for the patient you are visiting, you must obtain it before checking in. Patients are responsible for providing their visitors with the PIN.
- Visitors will scan a government-issued ID.
- The system will complete a visitor management check before access to the inpatient unit is granted.
If a Visitor Does Not Have a Scannable ID
Visitors who do not have a scannable form of identification, such as a driver’s license or passport card, may check in with the concierge at the front desk near the kiosk. The visitor will need to provide their information and an alternate form of identification.
