Vice President of Operations, UPMC Hamot
As vice president of operations, Mr. Levy oversees several departments including surgical services, the ambulatory surgery center, imaging, laboratory, environmental, and nutritional services. He also closely collaborates with the UPMC Hamot medical staff and oversees construction, maintenance, safety, and several other operational areas of the hospital.
A dynamic, forward-leaning healthcare executive with a depth of diverse experiences in health care strategy, growth, and process improvement, Mr. Levy is a transformational leader with a demonstrated track record of success in business analytics, quality, benchmarking for data-driven decisions, productivity management, and the patient care experience. He is committed to UPMC values and providing the best possible care and experience.
Mr. Levy has more than 25 years of health care leadership experience. He most recently served as the vice president of surgical services for Aurora St. Luke's, Sinai, West Allis, South Shore, and Grafton medical centers in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
He has also served in high-level leadership positions at the Mayo Clinic, Kaiser Permanente, Sentara Healthcare, U.S. Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, numerous naval medical care facilities, and the Naval Hospital Jacksonville. He led multiple efforts to improve surgical service throughput, operational efficiency, patient experience, and quality at the Mayo Clinic. At Sentara Healthcare’s Careplex hospital, he was instrumental in the hospital’s ability to earn Magnet Recognition® for nursing excellence in 2017.
Mr. Levy holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Hampton University in Virginia. He received his master’s degree in management from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, as well as a master’s degree in business administration from The George Washington University, in Washington, D.C. Mr. Levy is a board-certified healthcare executive and Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
