Built on the expertise of its board-certified orthopaedic surgeons, who have more than 200 years of combined experience among them, UPMC Horizon's orthopaedic surgery program guides its patients through the entire process, from preoperative testing and education to postoperative care and rehabilitation.

Before undergoing orthopaedic surgery, patients may need to have a medical clearance with their family doctor and an evaluation with the orthopaedic surgeon. They will also have a telephone consultation with preoperative testing nurse.
Patients who have joint replacement surgery at UPMC Horizon are encouraged to attend our Total Joint Education Class, which may be coordinated with your preoperative testing. Many questions regarding planning for your surgery, learning about expectations during your hospital stay, and preparing for your recovery at home are answered during the class.

Total Joint Education Classes are held the second Thursday of each month from 4 to 6 p.m. in Assembly Room A (basement) at UPMC Horizon-Greenville. Register for a class through your doctor or by calling Centralized Scheduling at 724-589-6681 or 724-983-8864.
Seven private rooms at UPMC Horizon-Greenville are devoted to total joint replacement patients.To help you to recover and relax following your surgery, these rooms have been furnished to suggest a home-like atmosphere, complete with reclining chairs specifically designed for orthopaedic surgery patients. A room service menu is also available so you may order your choice of meals.
Members of the nursing staff dedicated to caring for total joint replacement patients have received advanced training in orthopaedic surgery nursing, so you can be assured that your postoperative care is in skilled hands.
After surgery, patients have access to physical therapy and rehabilitation programs offered at both the Greenville and Shenango Valley campuses, as well as outpatient physical therapy at UPMC Centers for Rehab Services. In addition, the UPMC Horizon Pain Management Center offers a variety of pain-control options.
