What Addiction Treatment Services Do You Provide?

Addiction Medicine Services is UPMC’s first combined detox and rehab program.

We care for those who:

  • Have relapsed after already going through detox.
  • Need medical care during inpatient rehab for substance abuse.

UPMC McKeesport provides a safe place for physical chemical dependency treatment and medically managed withdrawal.

We also give you the tools and teach you the skills you need to beat your addiction and stay sober.

Treatments for addiction and related mental health issues include:

  • Medicine
  • Mental health counseling
  • Community and peer support

We know there are many pathways to recovery. Each person is unique.

It's the job of our addiction medicine team to help and support you in finding what's best for you. We'll work with you to design a personal treatment and recovery plan.

Along with medically managed detox and short-term inpatient rehab, other services include:

  • Compassionate care with a focus on your physical well-being during recovery.
  • Support through one-on-one, group, and family therapy sessions.
  • Access to peer specialists who have gone through drug addiction treatment and maintained sobriety.

When you leave our addiction treatment program, we'll give you an aftercare plan and referrals. These tools focus on achieving sustainable sobriety over time to help prevent relapse.

What are the Hours of Your Addiction Medicine Services?

Detox services are 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Once you complete the most acute aspects of detox, we will provide you with the appropriate level of rehabilitation.  If you do not meet criteria for the medically managed rehabilitation, we will refer you to lower levels of rehabilitation.

Rehab services are 7 days a week. Program hours are from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Daily programs consist of structured group activities that focus on learning the skills you will need to live a sober life.

You will also meet with your therapist once a week to create a life changing plan for a sober future.

What Should I Do After Discharge to Help Me Stay Sober?

If you're willing, we'll discharge you with an aftercare plan that reflects the work you did during detox and/or rehab.

Your aftercare plan may include:

  • Referrals to support resources to help you continue on your recovery journey.
  • Relapse prevention resources.
  • Steps you developed with your therapist that focus on how to live a substance-free life.

You will also receive personal recovery plans from members of your treatment team. With your consent, we will inform your family of these plans.

After you leave, we'll call you 3, 7, and/or 30 days post discharge to follow up with and see how you're doing.
