The UPMC Somerset Rehabilitation and Wellness Center can help almost anyone who would like to decrease pain and/or improve function and wellness. We have successfully treated people of all ages, pediatrics to senior citizens, and have helped people ranging from professional athletes to the homebound. Whether you want to recover from a condition, injury or surgery or if you simply want to feel better and/or achieve improved performance, most likely we can help you.
As physical therapists, we are dedicated to the highest quality patient care available. The use of the most effective procedures and equipment by specialists, who fortify their background with advanced training and education, leads to excellent and appropriate patient care. Additionally, we offer aquatic therapy, vistibular/balance therapy and concussion management. Our center utilizes newly developed procedures for testing and evaluation, as well as for treatment.
Each piece of equipment used for your treatment will be explained as to its purpose and effects. Your treatment program may include an exercise program to increase strength, decrease muscle spasms, or to improve functional movement. Our facility offers the highest quality resistance equipment that allows for individual fit of equipment for added safety and effectiveness. We tailor each exercise program to the physical needs of you, the patient.
UPMC Somerset’s Outpatient Occupational Therapy department is trained to specifically deal with pain in the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand. This pain may be as a result from injury or surgery. Our staff is highly trained and educated to provide you with the most appropriate care tailored to meet your specific needs. Your treatment plan may include custom splinting, exercises, and treatment techniques to increase strength and range of motion as well as decrease pain. Our staff is also educated in conservative treatment techniques which may help with the problems of pain, numbness, and swelling before the drastic measures of surgery. Our goal is to assist you in getting back to your normal activities of daily living, work, and leisure tasks. In addition to treating problems with the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand; our staff is also qualified to treat traumatic brain injury, stroke, work related injuries, and children with learning deficits.
Outpatient speech therapy is provided primarily for adult stroke recovery and adult swallowing rehabilitation. Outpatient referrals are reviewed on an individual basis and may include evaluation and treatment of adults with central nervous system lesion or damage, progressive neurologic or muscular disorders, oral/facial/neck disorders, specific respiratory ailments, dysphagia or difficulty swallowing, aphasia, and difficulty communicating after stroke or brain injury. Our ASHA certified, Vital Stim certified, and PA licensed therapists are here to provide a specialized rehabilitation service for adults in our community as part of a comprehensive recovery program.
We feature a highly educated fitness staff consisting of professionals with Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate degrees in Exercise Physiology, Physical Therapy and Athletic Training. Several Staff members are certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
Our staff will personalize a program according to your goals, fitness level, medical conditioning and ability. We offer the “medical fitness difference” which means our professionals have the knowledge to design programs for individuals with arthritis, back pain, musculoskeletal injuries, diabetes, joint pain and many other conditions.
We also offer sports specific strength and conditioning for student athletes ages 13 and up.
Our facility is equipped with the highest quality cardiovascular and resistance training equipment. Our cardiovascular area also has Cardio Theater with 35″ flat screen TV’s to make your exercise program more enjoyable.

UPMC Somerset Rehabilitation and Wellness Center offers a full array of fitness classes including Yoga Flow, Pump, Body Shape and Tone, Power Sculpt, Silver Sneakers, and Sunrise Shred. Classes are offered at various times throughout the week. The group fitness room is located on the third floor of the building. Persons needing additional information on the classes or wishing to register may call the Rehabilitation and Wellness Center.
