Are you a current or former smoker? Smoking significantly increases your risk for developing lung cancer.
The earlier lung cancer is detected, the greater the survival rate. There are usually no symptoms until after the cancer spreads outside the lungs.
If you are between the ages of 50 and 77 and have the following risk factors, you should be screened:
The screening is split into two parts. First, a computed tomography (CT) technologist will talk to you about the screening process. They will inform you of what to expect during the CT scan and how you will receive your results.
Second, you will receive a CT chest scan. The actual screening time of a CT scan is just two to three minutes. The machine is open, so you can see out.
UPMC St. Margaret lung cancer screenings are administered only at the main hospital building at 815 Freeport Road.
The cost of a comprehensive UPMC St. Margaret lung cancer CT scan screening is $150. Check with your insurance provider to see if you are covered for these screenings.
Ask your physician to schedule a lung cancer screening appointment for you through Radiology Outpatient Scheduling at 866-331-9800.
