Center of Excellence: Opioid Use
Helping People with Medicaid Access Opioid Addiction Treatment
The purpose of the Center of Excellence (COE) is to open access for people with an opioid use problem and have Medicaid. We hope to decrease barriers to those who need access to opioid treatment and services.
The COE is a part of outpatient addiction medicine services at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital.
The center is located in Oakland at:
3501 Forbes Avenue, Suite 860,
Pittsburgh, PA 15213
We're open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. We welcome both walk-ins and scheduled appointments and provide a warm, friendly environment to those in need.
People with substance use issues other than opioids, or those without Medicaid, can find help at UPMC Addiction Medicine Services. Please make an appointment with the Center for Psychiatric and Chemical Dependency Services (CPCDS) on UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital’s ninth floor.

Our Opioid Use Treatment Services
At the COE, our program is unique and has great flexibility in that it tailors services and integrates community-based options.
We can follow and support you even if you don't come to us formally for therapy.
Opioid use services we provide include:
- Case management, screenings, assessments, and in-person support by our trained staff and peer navigators.
- Formal one-on-one counseling through our on-site therapist.
- Intensive outpatient and psychoeducational groups through the CPCDS.
If you're already receiving therapy, recovery specialist, or case management services, you can still use the COE. When you build a relationship with the COE team, we make sure it won't hinder or negate your current treatment services.
If you don't use therapy or do need formal care assessments, the COE offers clinical services that we'll bill to your insurance.
These include:
- Specialized support for addiction
- Integrated care for substance use and mental health disorders
- Custom-tailored treatments to meet your needs
We look forward to helping you access recovery providers within the Pittsburgh area. By doing so, we hope that you can take the next steps of your journey hand-in-hand with those who care.
