 J. Peter Rubin, MDJ. Peter Rubin, MD

Chair, UPMC Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
Dr. Rubin is board certified in plastic surgery and is co-director the UPMC Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Center. The founder and director of UPMC’s Life After Weight Loss program, a unique program that combines body contouring surgery with lifestyle and nutritional counseling in a supportive environment, Dr. Rubin is a national leader in the field of body contouring.
He lectures extensively in the United States and throughout the world about body contouring surgery and is the lead author of a body contouring medical textbook for plastic surgeons. Dr. Rubin is a past recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, the nation's highest honor for young researchers.


Tahsin Oguz Acarturk, MDTahsin Oguz Acarturk, MD

Dr. Acartürk’s surgical practice focuses on microsurgical reconstruction with an emphasis on head and neck reconstruction, complex reconstructions, facial trauma, hand trauma, and cosmetic surgery.
Dr. Acartürk has won numerous academic awards and written over 40 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, mainly as a the primary author, mostly related to microsurgical reconstruction, reconstruction of complex defects, and rhinoplasty, in addition to numerous basic science articles. He presented at many prestigious international conferences throughout the world. Dr. Acartürk is a member of several international societies and is board certified by the European Board of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery.


 Carolyn De La Cruz, MDCarolyn De La Cruz, MD

Dr. De La Cruz is board certified in plastic surgery and has extensive training in post-cancer reconstruction. She founded the University of Pittsburgh’s microsurgical breast reconstructive program and offers a complete array of breast reconstruction techniques with an individualized approach for each patient. Dr. De La Cruz also is interested in body contouring, aesthetic surgery, and women's health.


 Michael Gimbel, MDMichael Gimbel, MD

Dr. Gimbel is board certified in plastic surgery and his practice encompasses the wide scope of plastic surgery including cosmetic, hand, breast, facial, and general reconstructive surgery. He has particular interest in the many avenues of breast restoration, offering implant-based, microsurgical, and oncoplastic-type reconstructions. An author of numerous articles and book chapters on plastic surgery issues, Dr. Gimbel practices at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital, and UPMC Shadyside. Dr. Gimbel is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery, the Greater Pittsburgh Plastic Surgery Society, the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery, and the Ohio Valley Society of Plastic Surgeons.


Jeffrey A. Gusenoff, MDJeffrey A. Gusenoff, MD

Dr. Gusenoff is a fellowship trained body contouring surgeon and specializes in plastic surgery after massive weight loss. In addition to providing surgical solutions, Dr. Gusenoff offers comprehensive care with nutrition and lifestyle counseling. He has developed a dedicated program, BodyChangers, which combines exercise, nutrition, mental wellness, and adventures to help maintain weight loss. In addition to body contouring surgery, he also has interests in cosmetic and general reconstructive plastic surgery.


 Vu Nguyen, MDVu Nguyen, MD
Dr. Nguyen is board certified in plastic surgery. His clinical interests include reconstructive breast surgery and cosmetic surgery of the face, breast, and body as well as minimal scar techniques for breast renewal surgery, and contemporary approaches to facial rejuvenation. His has won several awards for his teaching and for publications based on his research activities. Dr. Nguyen believes that since plastic surgery involves personal choices, clinical expertise should be matched with individual expectations. His plastic surgery philosophy is to look outside the typical standards of what is considered beautiful, and enhance the beauty that already exists within each patient.


James M. Russavage, MD, DMDJames M. Russavage, MD, DMD
Dr. Russavage is board certified in plastic surgery and physical medicine and rehabilitation, and is also a doctor of dental medicine. His research interests include trauma reconstruction and wound healing, and his surgical interests include aesthetic and breast surgery.




Kenneth C. Shestak, MD

Dr. Shestak is board certified in plastic surgery, and is co-director of UPMC’s Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Center. He is also a member of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS) and has received national and international recognition for surgical excellence in virtually all areas of cosmetic surgery as well as for his teaching presentations at numerous Plastic Surgery Educational Symposia.

His interests and surgical practice are focused on cosmetic surgery of the breast, body contouring techniques, and surgical and non-surgical facial rejuvenation procedures.

Dr. Shestak is the author of a widely recognized textbook describing breast surgery revision procedures, as well as numerous research publications in the field of cosmetic plastic surgery. He has been nominated as a “Best Doctor” in the field of plastic surgery by his peers, as published in Pittsburgh Magazine, for many years, most recently in 2018. Dr. Shestak is a professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. He consistently strives to deliver state-of-the-art cosmetic surgical care and enjoys connecting with patients as they progress through their cosmetic surgery journey.

Guy Stofman, MD, FACS
Dr. Stofman is double board certified in otolaryngology, head and neck surgery as well as plastic surgery. Dr. Stofman has taught and lectured locally as well as nationally, with numerous publications, book chapters, and teaching courses over the last 25 years. He has developed a vast clinical experience in rhinoplasty (cosmetic surgery of the nose). He lectures frequently and teaches residents and other plastic surgeons on various techniques of rhinoplasty. In addition, he has extensive experience in cosmetic face, eyelid and breast surgery. His reconstructive interest concentrates on lower extremity, and reconstructive surgery of the burned areas of the head and neck along with upper and lower extremities.

Among his accomplishments; he was elected President of Pittsburgh Plastic Surgery Society from 2001- 2003, President of the Robert H. Ivy Society, The Pennsylvania State Plastic Surgery Society from 2004-2005. He was inducted into the prestigious American Association of Plastic Surgery in 2005, an honor accomplished by being voted in by his peers. He has recently been asked to sit on the American Association of Plastic Surgery Finance Committee, as well as the Ethics Committee a position held since 2016. He has been interviewed live on NBC Today show for his work on the psychosexual benefits of cosmetic surgery. His professional memberships in addition to the Association of Plastic surgery include the American Society of Plastic Surgery, The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, and the American College of Surgeons, where he is a local representative for Western Pennsylvania.



Dawn Wang, MDDawn Wang, MD

Dr. Wang is board certified in Plastic Surgery and her clinical interests include breast and reconstructive surgery, aesthetic surgery, peripheral nerve, and hand surgery. Her research interests include quality and patient safety in plastic surgery and she is the Chair of the Plastic Surgery patient safety committee.
