Bone Density Test - DXA at UPMC in Central Pa.

UPMC in Central Pa. uses the most advanced technology to provide comprehensive osteoporosis care, including screenings and DXA bone density tests.

Osteoporosis, a progressive condition that causes weakening of the bones, affects nearly half of all post-menopausal women and nearly one in three men over the age of 65.

Bone Density Tests

If you are at risk for osteoporosis, our imaging team will perform a bone density test using special X-ray technology called DXA (dual energy X-ray absorptiometry). The machine will scan your hip and spine to detect early loss of bone. The test is painless and takes approximately 20 minutes.

Osteoporosis Screenings

As part of our commitment to building a healthier community, UPMC in Central Pa. offers free bone density heel screenings to women under age 65 at several of our outpatient imaging centers (Dillsburg, Fredricksen Outpatient Center, Hershey, Lebanon Valley Advanced Care Center, Medical Sciences Pavilion, Millersburg and Newport). Free heel scans are available 8 a.m-.4 p.m. Monday-Friday.
