Our specialized team of providers collaborates with the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) teams across our central Pa. hospitals to provide support and guidance for children from infancy to age 3 with unique medical and developmental needs.
We Support You and Your Child
Our highly trained professional team includes a physician, clinic coordinator, and developmental evaluators, such as an occupational therapist, physical therapist, speech therapist, and/or an infant evaluation specialist. Using specially designed assessment tools, along with standardized assessments and questionnaires, our caring team evaluates your child and develops a personalized plan based on their unique needs.
What Your Visit Includes
The initial visit usually occurs one to two months after the baby is discharged from the hospital. Each visit may be 1 to 1.5 hours, so we can:
- Review medical history.
- Discuss the health status of your child.
- Look at all areas of development including, but not limited to:
- Communication.
- Movement (muscle tone and reflexes).
- Self-help skills (feeding and sleep).
- Social and emotional (feelings and interactions with others).
- Thinking and learning skills.
- Vision and hearing.
- Complete a physical exam.
- Provide resources and referrals.
How Often Your Child Visits the Clinic
Depending on the child’s specific needs, you and your child may return for follow-up visits about every three to six months until their third birthday.
How to Schedule a Visit
The NICU discharge specialist will schedule your appointment before your baby goes home. This information will be shared with you prior to the discharge date.
You or your child’s pediatrician may also contact the clinic coordinator in our office to schedule an appointment.
Cost
The cost of the Neonatal Developmental Follow-up Clinic is covered by most health insurance plans.
