UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh have played a leadership role in addressing pain medicine delivery during the COVID-19 pandemic, including an article in Pain Medicine — the official journal of the American Association of Pain Management (AAPA) — which outlines best practice guidelines using telemedicine for chronic pain. Additionally, in his role as president of the AAPA, Ajay Wasan, MD, vice chair for pain medicine at UPMC, held a series of national webinars advising providers on how to adjust their practice to the COVID pandemic in order to keep patients safe while still receiving high quality pain care.
