Life changing is... being committed to the region

UPMC’s Regional Economic Impact Nearly Doubled in Five Years

Just like great medicine, a stronger economy changes lives. Every dollar directly spent by UPMC results in more than twice as much impact on the state’s economy.

$46 Billion Economic Impact in 2020

Big Enough to Make a Difference

UPMC is the largest nongovernmental employer in Pennsylvania, directly supporting more than 90,000 jobs.

UPMC named one of the "150 Top Places to Work in Healthcare" by Becker's Healthcare.

Our investment in employees and state-of-the-art patient care facilities has a wide ranging impact. UPMC invested $782 million in capital expenditures in 2021 to help ensure our patients have access to modern facilities, equipment, and cutting-edge information technology. Beyond this direct impact to our patients, this spending creates jobs and has a stimulus effect that ripples through local economies, increasing local construction, manufacturing, supplies, deliveries, and more.

In June 2022, UPMC broke ground for a new $1.5 billion tower at UPMC Presbyterian, which will transform Oakland's landscape.

In addition to making a big investment, we also care about making sure diverse businesses and workers are included. Through UPMC’s supplier diversity initiative, we actively recruit and provide diverse businesses with equal access to procurement opportunities, with $293 million in diversity spending in 2021.

Supplier diversity spending more than doubled from 2016 to 2021. $112 Million 2016 to $293 Million in 2021
