The Center for Engagement and Inclusion’s community engagement vision is to build a healthy community for our diverse, underserved populations in partnership with key stakeholders. With the goal of creating deep impact on the health and economic development of the communities we serve, we partner with community organizations, charitable foundations, educational institutions, government, and faith-based organizations.
Building a health community encompasses a broad range of areas that the UPMC Center for Engagement and Inclusion addresses, including:
The UPMC Center for Engagement and Inclusion’s community engagement strategy and Community Health Partnership Council addresses major health disparities in our communities with the intent of creating deep impact on these issues. As a starting point, the focus is on 3 areas:
UPMC offers work-readiness training programs for those in underserved communities and assists them in finding employment within UPMC.
We work closely with the UPMC Quality, Safety, and Innovation team to improve the experience of patients in our diverse communities and to ensure culturally relevant care.
The UPMC Supplier Diversity Program is designed to provide minority, woman-owned, and disadvantaged businesses (MWDBE) equal access to procurement opportunities.
The UPMC Center for Engagement and Inclusion partners with nonprofit organizations and educational institutions that serve diverse, underserved communities to promote cultural awareness, health education and workforce development.
This initiative is focused on building relationships with diverse community organizations, including Latino, immigrant, refugee, LGBTQ, and interfaith communities. We collaborate with community leaders to develop programs and resources to serve diverse populations. We aim to be partners in community health care by providing the following services:
We recognize the lasting impact we can make by serving our communities. In partnership with employees across the system, the Center for Engagement and Inclusion encourages employee participation by facilitating monthly Lend A Hand opportunities to donate items, volunteer time, or attend events. Service projects and donation drives enable employees to experience the rewards of giving back to the communities in which we all live and work. Lend A Hand barrels are located at UPMC facilities.
