At UPMC, inclusion begins with a core belief that everyone deserves dignity and respect.
In 2008, the UPMC Center for Engagement and Inclusion introduced the Dignity & Respect initiative to create a more inclusive workplace culture. As communities and organizations outside of UPMC have learned about what we are doing here, Dignity & Respect has grown from an internal initiative to a national campaign.*
An Integration of Dignity & Respect
For UPMC, dignity and respect are more than just a campaign. They are guiding principles that help UPMC become a better employer and provider of services.
We have integrated dignity and respect into the following areas:
Dignity & Respect in Action
Tip 27 - Become a Mentor. You can help others realize their potential.
In support of Dignity & Respect Tip 27, Become a Mentor is an e-mentoring program for UPMC employees designed to provide peers, including supervisors, with an opportunity to further champion our culture and values by growing and engaging each other.
Tip 29 - Lend a Hand. A little help can go a long way.
We recognize the lasting impact we can make by serving our communities. Our employee volunteerism initiative, Lend A Hand, engages employees interested in donating time in the community, spending a few hours discussing health careers with students, and donating items to organizations in need.
January is Dignity & Respect Month
UPMC employees celebrate by:
- Recognizing D&R champions at annual D&R breakfast
