During a routine exam, Marc’s doctor noticed some irregularities with his thyroid.
After he failed a stress test, doctors performed an angioplasty.
Marc’s heart was very strong, but it turned out he needed surgery to repair five blockages.
He was scheduled for open heart surgery two weeks later at UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute. UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute is one of the world’s premier centers for comprehensive cardiovascular care.
The surgery was a success.
"After surgery, I went through cardiac rehab," Marc says. “This put me back on a much healthier life — healthy eating, taking my medications."
Most importantly, Marc is back to doing what he loves: playing with his grandchildren.
“My surgery was July 2, 2005, and every year since then I call that my second birthday,” Marc says. “I appreciate having my life back."
At UPMC, Life Changing Medicine means giving patients more time with those who matter most.
