Pittsburgh-based Sandra Bacchi is a visual artist working in photography, glass, and film. Her artwork often explores open-ended narratives where she seeks to find common ground between people. Originally from Brazil, she earned a degree in photography from Escola Panamericana de Artes in São Paolo.
Sandra is an active filmmaker and conceptual artist. Her artwork has been featured in exhibitions at the Smithsonian Institution National Portrait Gallery, the Houston Center for Photography, and the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art.
Her love of glass began in 2019 when she was an artist in residence at the Pittsburgh Glass Center. It was the first time she combined photographic images and glass. The result was Seeking Nowhere, an installation of 35 images of five different ocean horizons, inspired by her father’s immigration experience. The artwork investigates the sense of belonging that immigrants seek when they leave their homeland.
Other projects include:
- Synergy, 2025, a permanent artwork using photography and glass at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts.
- Be the Best Tree, a documentary film about growth through the performing arts.
- Watermelons are not Strawberries, 2022, an exhibition and book published by Yoffy Press.
