Geriatric Care Center at UPMC St. Margaret

An evaluation and treatment center designed to meet the health needs of people over age 60. Along with specialized medical and psychiatric care, geriatric professionals assist older adults and their families in making health care decisions to fulfill the patient’s daily needs.


Shadyside's Senior Care Institute

Located within UPMC Shadyside, specialty care is provided to meet the complex health care needs that geriatric patients face. Consultations are available for patients with specific geriatric conditions.

An interdisciplinary team approach is followed. This team includes geriatricians, psychiatrists, psychologists, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, and physical therapists. The goal is to help older patients stay independent, optimize self-care ability, and maintain quality of life.


Alzheimer Disease Research Center

Performs and coordinates AD-related clinical and research activities and is a core source of support (e.g., resources, patients, tissue, expert consultation for research, clinical and training activities) regionally and nationally.

Services include:

  • Evaluation for suspected Alzheimer's Disease
  • Evaluation of memory, language, judgment, and other cognitive abilities
  • Education and counseling for patients and families

Late Life Depression Prevention and Treatment Center

Dedicated to the development and effective prevention and interventions in late-life mood disorders and grief for adults of all ages.

Through the center, older adults are evaluated by a team of experienced psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses and social workers dedicated to the development of effective interventions in late life mood disorders.

Geriatric In-Home Support Program (GIHSP)

A Western Psychiatric program that provides in-home psychiatric care for people aged 60 and older residing in Allegheny County. Individuals are home-bound either for physical or psychiatric reasons.


UPMC Visiting Nurses

UPMC Visiting Nurses provides home health care in 22 counties in PA and 2 in OH. Their team provides specialized care for patients of all ages, newborn to adult Some of the advanced training is in the following area: cardiopulmonary, ortho/rehab, wound care, bariatrics, diabetes, oncology, behavioral health, etc.

Their focus is on managing and treating symptoms, reassuring, and helping patients and their families have the best possible quality of care during their illness.

Provides round-the-clock, mental health crisis intervention and stabilization services for residents of Allegheny County in Pennsylvania.

Trained crisis counselors will travel to where you are — anywhere in Allegheny County.

An individual does not need an appointment when visiting the North Braddock Avenue location, near Pittsburgh, Pa. Just walk in and talk about your concerns or those of a family member or friend.

Through a commitment to quality services, Family Hospice provides a complete continuum of care to patients and families.
