Throat and Urine Cultures at the Department of Family Medicine

UPMC Content 3

A culture in medicine is where a health care provider takes a sample from you and uses special methods to search for bacteria growth.

Typical samples assessed by a culture include:

  • A sample from the throat collected with a swab.
  • A sample of urine collected in the office.

Our family medicine doctors have throat and urine culture testing available in their offices.

If you have symptoms of sore throat or symptoms that may be due to a urinary tract infection we can help you get the right treatment.

We not only provide throat and urine culture testing, but we also discuss the results and outline directions for becoming healthy again.

Please contact one of our family medicine locations if you have questions about throat or urine culture tests, or want to schedule an appointment.
