The UPMC Kidney Clinics follow the National Kidney Foundation Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality Initiative guidelines and offer comprehensive, multidisciplinary services for adults with impaired renal function including:
  • Identification of renal disease and its cause(s)
  • Assessment of kidney function and the risk of disease progression
  • Management and monitoring of health factors contributing to chronic kidney disease, including hypertension and diabetes
  • Treatment of severe or complicated hypertension
  • Management of anemia resulting from chronic kidney disease (CKD)
  • Management of bone disease, parathyroid, and metabolic disorders resulting from CKD
  • Prevention and medical management of kidney stones
  • Treatment of high-risk obstetric patients with renal disease
  • Treatment of acute kidney failure and acute kidney injury
  • Early planning for dialysis, including placement of dialysis access
  • Early referral and initiation of the transplantation evaluation process for patients progressing to end-stage renal disease
  • Support for patients requiring renal-replacement therapy
