The UPMC Kidney Clinics follow the National Kidney Foundation Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality Initiative guidelines and offer comprehensive, multidisciplinary services for adults with impaired renal function including:
- Identification of renal disease and its cause(s)
- Assessment of kidney function and the risk of disease progression
- Management and monitoring of health factors contributing to chronic kidney disease, including hypertension and diabetes
- Treatment of severe or complicated hypertension
- Management of anemia resulting from chronic kidney disease (CKD)
- Management of bone disease, parathyroid, and metabolic disorders resulting from CKD
- Prevention and medical management of kidney stones
- Treatment of high-risk obstetric patients with renal disease
- Treatment of acute kidney failure and acute kidney injury
- Early planning for dialysis, including placement of dialysis access
- Early referral and initiation of the transplantation evaluation process for patients progressing to end-stage renal disease
- Support for patients requiring renal-replacement therapy
