RA Tests and Treatments We Offer at UPMC

Tests to help diagnose RA

After talking with you about your health history and symptoms, we may order blood tests.

These will look for:

• Elevated C-reactive protein (CRP) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR). These are measures of inflammation.
• Levels of antibodies that might indicate RA.
• How well your organs function.

We may also order imaging tests to look for joint or other organ damage, such as:

• X-rays.
• CT scans.
• MRIs.
• Ultrasounds.

You and your doctor will discuss your treatment, which may include:

• Medicine to reduce pain and swelling. This includes prescription and over-the-counter drugs.
