UPMC Presbyterian Tower News and Events

As a community partner and economic driver that the City of Pittsburgh can count on, UPMC is deeply invested in supporting the City and its neighborhoods, including the vibrant community of Oakland.

UPMC is proud to go beyond the traditional definitions of health care. UPMC's goal is to strengthen the local economy and unlock the potential of the City of Pittsburgh's future with initiatives that encourage and support innovation, inclusiveness, and sustainability.

Announced in 2017 as part of three building projects designed to change the health care landscape of Pittsburgh, the UPMC Presbyterian tower is the realization of a plan 15 years in the making. The new building has been uniquely planned and designed to allow our teams to continue to extend the innovative and complex care that has driven the reputation of UPMC Presbyterian as a national and international destination for numerous specialties.

Following an international competition for design and architects for the three building projects, HGA was selected to bring more than 15 years of planning together with the innovative, patient-centric vision for a health care destination.

The construction of this new tower at UPMC Presbyterian will create hundreds of construction jobs, bringing more commerce to Oakland neighborhoods from the first shovel in the ground through completion—and ultimately beyond.

In addition to facilitating a healing environment focused on the patient experience once complete, the tower will help attract top-tier physicians and health care workers, nationally and internationally; draw students to the University of Pittsburgh and area universities and colleagues focused in studying medicine and health care; and create pathways to careers for local health care workers, service workers, and others accessible to public transportation and Pittsburgh's diverse neighborhoods.

The plan also includes a planned 450-space garage which will help decompress parking in the community and provide convenient parking options to access the new tower and amenities included.

The building meets or exceeds required green building standards.
