Senior Vice President of Business Development, UPMC Hamot & Chief Executive Officer, UPMC Hamot Heart and Vascular Institute
In 2005, Gary M. Maras was promoted to senior vice president with responsibilities including business development, service line development, and marketing and communications at Hamot Medical Center (now UPMC Hamot). In addition, he holds a leadership role as chief executive officer of the UPMC Hamot Heart and Vascular Institute.
Mr. Maras joined Hamot in 1998 as part of an initiative to enhance cardiovascular services. In the past, he has held the positions of operations director and administrative director of Cardiac Services before being appointed to vice president and administrative director of the UPMC Hamot Heart and Vascular Institute in the fall of 2000.
In addition, Mr. Maras is also the executive director of Medicor Associates Inc., the cardiology group practice for UPMC Hamot. The uniqueness of the dual role represents and demonstrates the cooperative efforts of the hospital and cardiologists in the development of the UPMC Hamot Heart and Vascular Institute.
Mr. Maras joined Hamot with nearly 25 years of experience in cardiac services. After completing his undergraduate degree at Penn State University, he spent several years as a technologist in clinical areas including cardiac surgery, cath lab, and cardiac diagnostic studies. While pursuing his master's degree in business from Gannon University, Mr. Maras held multiple management positions in the areas of cardiac and vascular services, gastroenterology, neurology, mobile diagnostic services, and regional development. Prior to joining Hamot, he served as administrative director of Millard Fillmore Heart Center in Buffalo, N.Y., and as an administrator at Saint Vincent Health Center in Erie. Mr. Maras has served as a consultant for numerous organizational and operational development consultant groups, including his own consulting firm.
Mr. Maras is a fellow in the American College of Cardiovascular Administrators and has held positions of local, state, and regional directors, as well as a national Board member. He is a member and past Board member of the Alliance for Cardiovascular Professionals and a member of the Medical Group Management Association.
