Eligibility

UPMC Hamot selects one otolaryngology resident per year on the basis of academic performance, recommendations, and interview.

Applicants must meet one of the following qualifications to be eligible for an ACGME accredited program: 

  • Graduated from a medical school in the United States or Canada accredited by the LCME
  • Graduated from a college of osteopathic medicine in the United States accredited by the AOA
  • Graduated from a medical school outside the United States or Canada and either holds a valid ECFMG certificate or has completed 5th Pathway Program

Curriculum: Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery Residency Program

Listed below is the curriculum for the UPMC Hamot Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery Residency program:


Year One

  • ENT — 6 months
  • General surgery — 2 months
  • ICU — 1 month
  • Plastic surgery — 1 month
  • Anesthesia — 1 month
  • Neurosurgery — 1 month

Year Two

  • ENT — 9 months
  • Plastic surgery — 2 months
  • Research — 1 month

Year Three

  • ENT — 9 months
  • Plastic surgery — 2 months
  • Research — 1 month

Year Four

  • ENT — 8 months
  • Peds ENT — 2 months
  • Research — 1 month
  • Elective (optional) — 1 month

Year Five

  • ENT — 9months
  • Otology — 3 months
