There are many volunteer opportunities available for cancer survivors through the Magee-Womens Hospital Volunteer department. These include volunteering in the cancer diagnosis and care service areas or other areas of the hospital. Breast and ovarian cancer survivors are also needed for peer support programs. All volunteers are required to go through an orientation and training program.
The Magee Womens Research Institute and Foundation program offers a variety of ways to express your gratitude to a doctor, nurse, or other health care professional for their compassionate, life-saving care.
Donations can be made in areas of research, patient care, and education.

All funds received by the Foundation are used at Magee as resources for our patients, physicians, researchers, nurses, and other health care staff.
Also, you can share your story by submitting a “My Magee Story” online at the Foundation’s website.

Providing feedback on personal experiences with the health care system provides valuable insight to how the cancer diagnosis and care process can be improved. Opportunities are available to provide feedback and input by becoming a member of a patient advisory council.
Advances in the diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients with cancer have occurred because of research studies called “clinical trials,” or “protocols.” Improved diagnostic tests and new treatments, developed through these trials, have led to cures for patients with some cancers.
Clinical trials that study the effectiveness of cancer treatments, such as surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and biological therapy, have helped health care professionals find improved ways to treat cancer.
Cancer patients and people at high risk for developing cancer are often asked to participate in a clinical trial. Patients and their families are advised to gather as much information as needed to make an informed decision about participation.
