Our Telemedicine Services at UPMC

Telemedicine is a safe and convenient way to have an appointment with your UPMC provider from the comfort of home.

What Telemedicine Services Do You Offer?

We have many ways to see a doctor without making a trip to their office.

Video Visits

A video visit is like an office visit. Your doctor will allow the same amount of time for your visit, but instead of sitting in a doctor's office, you're in the comfort of your own home.

You can see your doctor online for many of the same reasons you'd have an in-person appointment.

You can schedule a video visit to:

  • Discuss treatment options for an acute illness, such as a cold or the flu.
  • Follow up with your provider after treatment or a hospital stay.
  • Receive expert care for many complex or chronic conditions and specialties.

We also offer:

  • UPMC Magee-Womens Virtual Care Center – Video visits with UPMC Magee-Womens specialists are available for several women’s health care services so you can get the care you need, when you need it. No referral necessary.

Outpatient Telemedicine Centers

If you live outside of the Pittsburgh area, you can receive specialty care virtually at a UPMC Outpatient Telemedicine Center. We have several centers where we can connect you to UPMC specialists virtually — without having to travel to the city.

When you arrive at a UPMC Outpatient Telemedicine Center, a nurse will take you to an exam room with a large screen. They'll check your blood pressure and weight and ask questions about your health, your medications, and any concerns you may have. Then, a doctor will appear on the screen via a secure video call, and the nurse will send real-time info.

E-Visits

An E-Visit is an online alternative to a traditional office visit for certain non-emergency conditions. For an E-Visit, you complete a simple questionnaire in your portal about your symptoms for common health conditions. A provider then reviews your submission and provides an online diagnosis and treatment plan.

This visit differs from a video visit, which is when you connect with a provider who walks through your concerns in real-time.

UPMC AnywhereCare offers non-emergency care to patients of all ages for minor illnesses and injuries. These might include allergies, bronchitis and coughs, cold and flu symptoms, sinus infections, tick bites, and yeast and urinary tract infections (UTIs).

You can access UPMC AnywhereCare 24 hours a day, seven days a week, regardless of insurance.
