What Sets Us Apart?
A diverse clinical experience
Rotations at UPMC Harrisburg area’s three affiliated hospitals enable residents to care for a full spectrum of patients and pathology in a diverse patient population. Experiences span the office setting, wound care clinics, inpatient care and emergency medicine.
Training and related experiences
Residents will train at:
A strong collegial, academic environment
Our UPMC hospitals share roughly 13 residency and fellowship programs, allowing our residents to collaborate regularly with fellow physicians, surgeons, staff, and medical students. Our program provides excellent and intensive training in inpatient consultation and management of patients within a hospital setting. Involvement with resident/attending teaching and research is paramount and is a keystone for our program.
Community outreach opportunities
There are great opportunities for volunteering at our annual Harrisburg Marathon medical tent as well as participation at our local “Street Feet” clinic sessions, providing evaluation and management for our area’s vast underserved population.
Microvascular course rotation at Cleveland Clinic
PGY 3 residents attend the Cleveland Clinic’s Microsurgery Training Course. This 5-day course uses several teaching techniques which includes direct on-on-one teaching, with a maximum of two trainees at a time. Participants will be trained in vessel dissection, varying microsurgical techniques, arterial and venous end-to-end and end-to side anastomoses, and preparation and placement of vascular grafts.
Strong foundation allowing for a multitude of post-graduate opportunities
Our graduates have been successfully employed at multi-specialty medical groups, solo practices, orthopedic surgery practices, hospital systems and academic colleges around the country. Most have obtained board certification in Foot Surgery, and Rearfoot/Reconstructive Foot and Ankle Surgery through the American Board of Podiatric Surgery.
Come join our team. We are actively seeking enthusiastic, highly motivated individuals with the passion to excel in our podiatric profession!
How to Apply

Externship
The clerkship program through UPMC Harrisburg’s Podiatric Medicine and Surgical Program is open to applicants from our current affiliated Podiatric Medical Schools. The month long rotation strives to present a comprehensive picture of our three-year residency program for pre-doctoral podiatric extern students. It also acts to enhance the clinical educational exposure that is already in place. Interested students must submit the American Association of Colleges of Podiatric Medicine (AACPT) Uniform Podiatric Clerkship Application. More information can be found on the AACPM Website.
