*COVID-19 update for the 2020 Medical Student Rotation Season: At this time, we are still allowing students to participate in on-site rotations through our Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program. However, due to limited PPE and social distancing requirements across all campuses, we are limiting the number of students on-site at one time. Student rotations will now consist of 2-weeks virtual and 2-weeks in-person. Please fill out a rotation application here.
UPMC Pinnacle five-year Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program has initial accreditation by ACGME and AOA accreditation. Our program accepts applications for both osteopathic and allopathic candidates. We provide outstanding surgical training in orthopaedics to 25 residents.
Our program has been creating outstanding orthopaedic surgeons since 1972.
Our Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program mission is to provide residents with the highest level of academic and clinical education possible, motivation, and the opportunity to gain the skills necessary to become an outstanding orthopaedic surgeon.
With proper mentorship and experiences structured to meet ACGME requirements, our program aims to foster an attitude of lifelong learning and teaching while providing compassionate and quality care. The UPMC Pinnacle Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program maintains the highest ethical standards and develops each resident with the ability to practice competently and independently.
Our Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program goes beyond satisfying the basic training requirement for future certification in orthopaedic surgery through the AOA via the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. In addition to learning about the many facets of general orthopaedics, you will also receive training in a number of specialty areas, including:
You will also receive training in outpatient orthopaedics at our on-site orthopaedic clinic, which is run by residents and supervised by the attending orthopaedic surgeon. The clinic sees patients on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to noon.
