The UPMC Harrisburg Emergency Department reopened Feb. 2. at 9 p.m. after repairs were successfully made to restart the steam-powered heating system. All hospital services are operating normally, and surgeries for Tuesday, Feb. 3, will continue as scheduled.
We are incredibly grateful to our healthcare workers for their unwavering commitment to our patients, to our facilities team that worked swiftly to complete the repairs, and to the many contractors and community partners who came to our aid. We extend a special thank you to the Harrisburg Fire Department for their onsite support in ensuring the safety of our patients and staff as we assessed the damaged steam pipes and completed the repairs.
