The UPMC Department of Audiology offers four AuD externship positions each year. AuD externs have many responsibilities and opportunities in the clinic and will be exposed to a variety of clinic settings and activities across the scope of adult audiology practice. Externs are expected to participate in a variety of learning activities and grow in clinical independence throughout the year.
The following timeline was developed by the Audiology Clinical Education Network and will be utilized by UPMC Department of Audiology:
- Application deadline: Wednesday, September 16, 2026
- Interviews begin/initial offers can be extended: Tuesday, September 22, 2026
- Final day for interviews and initial offers: Wednesday, October 14, 2026
- Student response deadline for first round offerings: Friday, October 16, 2026 (1pm Eastern time).
- Students can choose to respond at an earlier date/time. If the student accepts, they need to withdraw all other applications.
- The timeline does not address the timing for the externship itself, but rather focuses on the process of application, interviews, offers, and acceptance of offers.
All application information must be submitted to the Qualtrics site by 5pm (Eastern) on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
Application materials will be reviewed and invitations for the interviews will be extended to a subset of the applicants via email by no later than 5pm (EDT) on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
Applicants, please check your email regularly during this time period. If you are extended an interview offer, you will be required to respond by Friday, September 18, 2026, at 5pm (Eastern) to confirm the interview slot.
The interviews will take place on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, September 23 to 25, 2026. You can choose to come in person or interview virtually.
Required items for student applicants:
- 1 letter of introduction/recommendation from the faculty coordinator of externships
- 2 additional letters of recommendation from academic or clinical supervisors
- 1 letter of Interest from the student
- 1 vita from the student applicant
Student applicants submitting letters of interest and vitas, clinical instructors or academic instructors submitting letters of recommendation, and externship coordinators submitting letters of introduction/recommendation should upload all application materials to the Qualtrics site. While completing this survey, applicants should indicate whether they plan to interview in person (in Pittsburgh, PA) or virtually (using the Zoom platform).
Qualtrics also provides access to:
- A description of the opportunities that will be available throughout the year
- Our infection control processes
- Our timeline (due date for submitted materials, date that interview invitations will be extended, and interview date)
