Education is a vital part of a person’s ability to make positive decisions regarding their physical, mental, and emotional health. Whether a person is 65+ or 2 years old, we have programs aiming to teach individuals how manage their diet, activity level, and mental health. Through knowledge, children, adults, and families can advocate for their healthiest self.
Our program has partnered with doctors, community stakeholders, schools, registered dieticians, counselors, and physical activity experts, to bring a variety of educational opportunities to the people living in the Dauphin County, Lancaster-Lititz, Lebanon, Cumberland-Perry, and York-Hanover areas. Families and individuals are able to use the tools presented in our programs to make lifestyle changes and positive decisions to prevent obesity, heart disease, diabetes, falls, and many other illnesses.
Our staff is highly educated and is able to match participants with the program that best fits the health needs of you, your family, or your community.

This is a 12 month program for overweight or obese youth ages 6-19 years old. Individualized plans in fitness, nutrition and mental health are created based on the youth’s healthy goals and interests. They are assigned a health coach that provides accountability and empowers the youth to make healthy behavior choices. We encourage whole family support and participation as the youth implements practices in meetings and in their daily life. The focus is finding new, interesting, and fun ways for the youth to explore and apply healthy habits.

One in three children in Pennsylvania is overweight or at risk of becoming overweight. Studies show that children who are overweight are at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma and other medical conditions.
That’s why UPMC in Central Pa. has partnered with schools in the Harrisburg area to combat childhood obesity through education.
Virtual presentations are held once/month on a variety of topics (cooking demos, suicide prevention, diabetes, tobacco & vaping, trauma informed care). Presentations can be geared for school faculty/staff and/or parents/caregivers. Let us know what healthy topics your group wants to learn about!

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one out of every four older adults will fall each year in the U.S. The CDC also states that roughly 36 million Americans fall every year, leading to more than 32,000 deaths annually. These numbers continue to climb each year.
We have programs and educational opportunities aimed to help older adults avoid being part of these statistics.
These programs are only available in the UPMC Hanover and UPMC Memorial regions at this time.
