Our Perioperative Nursing Fellowship offers a comprehensive orientation for inexperienced registered nurses and graduate nurses. The orientation instills the knowledge and skills necessary to practice confidently and safely in the operating room.
The Perioperative Nursing Fellowship program teaches the recommended practices of the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN), as well as UPMC in central Pa. system and department policies and procedures. The goals of the program are to:
Professional development courses and workshops, which are approved for continuing education credit, are offered to promote individual growth. Your staff development instructors will follow your progress and provide ongoing support.
UPMC in central Pa. is a 636-bed health system located in and around Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. We have 37 operating rooms on three campuses and perform more than 2,000 surgical procedures per month. Our Surgical Services department hosts regular shared governance councils and provides weekly department in-service educational programs.
Our Perioperative Nursing Fellowship program is comprised of three weeks of didactics, which includes an online AORN perioperative course taught by our departmental staff development instructor.
