Magee-Womens Specialty Center

The Magee-Womens Specialty Center at UPMC Altoona, located within Station Medical Center, offers comprehensive breast health services, including:

  • 3D mammograms
  • Seated mammograms
  • Minimally invasive breast biopsies
  • Stereotactic biopsies (uses low-dose x-rays to locate a potential abnormality)
  • Mastectomy (with the option of same-day breast reconstruction at the UPMC Altoona Surgery Center)
  • Referrals for lymphedema services and support groups
  • Prosthesis referrals
  • Genetics testing and consultation for women with a family history of breast and ovarian cancer

Our Center's dedicated team of doctors and nurse navigators guide people with breast cancer through the care process. Our breast cancer nurse navigators coordinate appointments and consultations. They can also help people who don't have health insurance apply for a voucher program to cover treatment costs or receive free mammograms.

Our radiologists are on-site and trained in breast imaging. This means you can receive your mammogram results before you leave the office.

People who come to us for breast cancer care receive a personalized treatment plan.

    Part of the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute at UPMC Altoona, services available at Station Medical Center include diagnostic tests and procedures to assess the function and structure of the heart, as well as general cardiology and specialized heart failure management.     Pre and postoperative office visits for general surgery are offered at the Station Medical Center office. Surgeries are performed at UPMC Altoona or the UPMC Altoona Surgery Center.

    UPMC Altoona Cove Surgical Associates treats patients for a wide range of surgical conditions, either benign or cancerous, and particularly those affecting the skin or abdomen and digestive organs, such as gall bladder surgeries, appendectomies, surgeries of the bowel, abscesses, fissures, fistulas, lesions, cysts, and cancer surgeries.

    Imaging services are conveniently located within the Station Medical Center complex. Services include:

    Primary Care

    UPMC primary care doctors offer wellness services and treatment for medical conditions that range from common to complex. Having a primary care physician (PCP) you see regularly is key to your overall health. Your PCP helps you to stay healthy by providing regular checkups, preventative health care screenings, and vaccinations.

    Your PCP can help you manage life-threatening medical conditions, such as high blood pressure, cancer, and diabetes. They will recommend screenings such as annual physicals, Pap tests, breast exams, mammograms, prostate screenings, colonoscopies, and others. Your PCP also can connect you to highly-trained medical specialists when you need advanced or specialized care.

    UPMC Primary Care Walk-in Center

    UPMC Altoona’s Primary Care Walk-in Center offers an option for patients with a busy lifestyle. The Altoona center sees patients ages five years and older for acute minor illnesses, injuries, sports physicals, and some diagnostic services. Patients are seen on a first-come, first-served basis.

    Visit the Walk-in Center for medical conditions such as:

    • Bronchitis

    • Ear ache, eye infections
    • Sinus pain and infection
    • Allergies, rashes, and poison ivy

    UPMC Altoona Cardiac Rehab Program

    UPMC Altoona’s cardiac rehabilitation program is located within Station Medical Center. The facility includes treadmills, elliptical machines, bikes, and weights.

    Patients should be initially referred to the program by their doctor after a heart attack. Staff at UPMC Altoona’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program will create customized exercise and education programs to help patients regain strength, improve their cardiovascular fitness, and reduce the risk of future heart problems.

    UPMC Altoona Pulmonary Rehab Program

    UPMC Altoona’s pulmonary rehabilitation program shares space at Station Medical Center with cardiac rehab.

    Pulmonary rehab requires a doctor’s referral. The program aims to help patients with chronic lung problems, lung disease, or lung cancer make the most of their lung capacity so that they can live better and breathe easier.

    Patients who complete the doctor-referred cardiac rehab or pulmonary rehab programs can continue to work out at the Station Medical Center facility through a $40 monthly plan.


    Sleep Medicine

    UPMC Altoona Sleep Center

    The UPMC Altoona Sleep Center offers a variety of resources for people who are having trouble sleeping. Sleep studies are conducted overnight in the Sleep Center’s private rooms, where the latest digital equipment is used to monitor breathing, eye movements, brain waves, and heart rate while you sleep. In-home sleep studies are also available for less complicated disorders. The sleep experts at the center work together to diagnose sleep disorders and provide personalized treatment, follow-up care, and educational information to support sleep health.

    When certain specialty services are not available locally, HIPAA-secure telemedicine technology can bring UPMC experts close to home, saving our patients the time and expense of traveling to Pittsburgh for care. Please contact your doctor for a referral to the Teleconsult Center.
