For Referring Physicians

The Advanced Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (ACPET) Program at UPMC:

  • Provides comprehensive testing for people with shortness of breath or exercise fatigue for unclear reasons; the identification of the primary cause of exercise limitation in patients with multiple medical diagnoses. 
  • Accepts referrals of patients with shortness of breath or exercise fatigue for unclear reasons. 
  • Accepts referrals of patients with pulmonary hypertension, pulmonary embolism, diastolic dysfunction, autoimmune disease (such as scleroderma and lupus), and parenchymal lung diseases including COPD, interstitial lung disease, or cystic fibrosis.
  • Coordinates all aspects of patient diagnosis and treatment with referring pulmonologists, cardiologists, and primary care physicians.

Patients can also be seen in the Comprehensive Pulmonary Hypertension clinic after the testing.
