Scholarly activity is an integral component of our General Surgical Residency Program at UPMC Community Osteopathic.
The surgical residency program and UPMC strongly encourage and support clinical and laboratory research by providing financial and institutional resources, including full-time librarians, 24/7 library access, a statistician and a graphics department.
In addition, UPMC sponsors an annual Medical Education Day to encourage the presentation of original research and case reports in the form of speaker-based presentations and posters. Attending physicians, residents, and allied health care workers are encouraged to participate. Awards are distributed for best original research, presentations and posters.
Presentations and posters at local and national meetings are fully supported and encouraged by the Medical Education Department. Residents present annually at the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons (ACOS) Annual Clinical Assembly.
