Professional Development

UPMC's GME programs offer professional development activities and opportunities that will enhance your skills as an educator. These include methods on giving and receiving feedback; using innovative approaches in teaching; education and coaching on quality improvement and patient safety efforts; how to speak about and address physician wellness; and many other topics. By harnessing UPMC’s integrated capabilities to deliver outstanding care, UPMC GME creates a model of professional development for our trainees that emphasizes clinical expertise, leadership skills and innovation.

Enhancing Teaching Skills For Medical Educators Series

  • This series is designed to enhance core teaching and scholarship skills for medical educators of both medical students and residents throughout the UPMC system. The webinar series occurs live through Microsoft Teams from 12:15–1 pm every other month during the academic year.

The Wolff Learning Academy

  • The Wolff Learning Academy, part of the Wolff Center at UPMC, is designed to meet the quality and safety educational needs of healthcare professionals, including executives, physicians, directors/managers, and clinical staff by providing education, tools, and resources based on reliability and improvement science to lead to positive health care outcomes.  

The Academy of Master Educators

  • The Academy of Master Educators recognizes and rewards excellence in education, strives to advance education through innovation and professional development of faculty, and supports and promotes educational scholarship.

UPMC Patient Safety and QI Efforts

Quality improvement (QI) experts Andrew Buchert, MD, and Dennis Phillips, MD, provide GME faculty and program directors with an overview of training and education in the QI process. They also discuss receiving and understanding data on quality metrics and engagement in QI activities.
