About UPMC Shadyside
UPMC Shadyside is a 520-bed tertiary care hospital that has been serving the residents of Pittsburgh and the tristate area since 1866. UPMC Shadyside offers primary medical care; physician and nursing education; and a broad range of specialties that include cardiology, oncology, orthopaedics, geriatrics, vascular medicine, endocrinology, and more. The hospital’s medical staff includes nearly 1,000 primary care physicians and specialists, with offices at the hospital and throughout the community. UPMC Shadyside is home to the Hillman Cancer Center, the flagship treatment and research facility of UPMC Cancer Center, and a key collaborator with the world-renowned University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute. Each year, the center treats more than 25,000 new patients and attracts more than $40 million of outside annual research funding. The hospital has a long legacy of leadership in cardiology and cardiac surgery including Pittsburgh’s first coronary care unit. Geriatrics also has a strong legacy at Shadyside Hospital, boasting the nation’s first physician to be board certified in geriatrics.
