General neurologists
Our team of general neurologists brings together a wide range of talents, skills, and experiences. This multidisciplinary team works with providers from across UPMC’s specialties to tailor your experience to your unique needs.
Epileptologists
UPMC is, one of the most experienced and advanced epilepsy centers in the country. Our specialists provide our patients with expert diagnoses and tailored treatment. We’re a level 4 epilepsy center, the highest ranking by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers.
Movement disorder neurologists
Our experts at UPMC provide advanced, individualized care for the complete range of movement disorders. UPMC has been recognized as a Center for Advanced Research by the American Parkinson Disease Association, one of only eight such centers in the U.S.
Our program also has been designated an MDA-ALS Center by the Muscular Dystrophy Association in recognition of excellence in clinical and research services. We are the only such center in western Pennsylvania.
Neuroimmunology and multiple sclerosis neurologists
Neurologists at the UPMC provide treatment for people with all levels of multiple sclerosis severity. Our experts are actively involved in medication research, novel therapies, and leading-edge clinical trials.
Headache neurologists
The experts at the UPMC specialize in diagnosing and treating headaches. Each of our headache experts has received subspecialty training and is board-certified in headache medicine, giving patients access to the most advanced and effective treatments for all types of headaches. Neuromuscular neurologists
Neurologists within the UPMC specialize in the diagnosis, treatment, and research of neuromuscular disorders. UPMC has been designated a Certified Treatment Center of Excellence by the ALS Association.
Memory and cognitive disorders neurologists
Our memory and cognitive disorder neurologists are experts in the fields of Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and frontotemporal disorders. UPMC works closely with the University of Pittsburgh Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, one of the nation’s leading hubs for Alzheimer’s research.
Stroke neurologists, vascular neurologists, and neurosurgeons
Stroke, vascular, and neurosurgery specialists within the UPMC are nationally recognized for their excellence in stroke therapy and care.
Currently, throughout the UPMC system, two of our locations have been awarded Comprehensive Stroke Center certification, three are certified as Thrombectomy Capable Centers, 17 as Primary Stroke Certified, and four as Acute Stroke Ready.
Our experts also provide consultation to thousands of patients each year through the our telestroke services.
Women’s neurologists
UPMC has one of the few dedicated women's neurology programs of its kind in the country. The experts at UPMC specialize in understanding the health care needs of women with neurological conditions, helping women manage these conditions during pregnancy and other life events.
Sleep neurologists
The neurologists within the UPMC are all board-certified in sleep medicine and are experts in the treatment of sleep disorders.

Physical, speech, and occupational therapists
Physical therapy may help people with neurological disorders maintain muscle strength and function. Occupational therapy experts can provide strategies to assist with performing everyday activities, as well as braces, wheelchairs, and other devices to improve mobility and safety. Speech therapy can help with voice, speech, communication, or swallowing problems.
Nutritionists and dietitians
Nutritional support can help people with neurological disorders maintain optimal nutrition and body weight despite swallowing difficulties. If necessary, a registered dietitian can provide advice and support for feeding tube therapy.
Respiratory therapists and pulmonologists
Respiratory therapists and pulmonologists can provide breathing support with CPAP, BiPAP, or a mechanical ventilators.
Behavioral health therapists
Support groups and counseling can provide people with neurological disorders and their loved ones with the psychosocial support they need to cope with this challenging diagnosis. Social workers can also connect patients and their loved ones to community support services, such as home care, medical equipment, financial support, and food assistance.
