Protective Equipment Fittings for Athletes

Parents, guardians, and coaches – please consider starting the season off safely and proactively by having your child’s athletic equipment properly fitted by an expert in sports medicine. UPMC Sports Medicine certified athletic trainers will fit your athlete’s equipment and verify that it is fitted according to national safety, as well as manufacturer, guidelines.

We fit helmets and protective facemasks for youth:

  • Football
  • Ice Hockey
  • Lacrosse
  • Cycling

Note: cycling includes fitting bicycle helmets for recreational use

We fit shoulder pads and protective gear for youth:

  • Football
  • Ice Hockey
  • Lacrosse

Improperly or loosely fitted athletic equipment can lead to serious injury, as this reduces the ability of the helmet, shoulder pads, or other protective gear to function as needed.

Please note that a properly fitted helmet does not prevent injuries such as concussions, neck injuries, or other head-related injuries. UPMC Sports Medicine does not promote or support any specific brand of athletic equipment.

Our protective athletic equipment fitting is free of charge for individuals or families, but there is a fee associated with team or youth organization group fittings based on the number of participants involved.

Appointments will occur at the:
