Director's Welcome to the Emergency Medicine Residency Program at UPMC in Central Pa.

Thank you for your interest in the UPMC Harrisburg Emergency Medicine Residency program!

We are a community, academic emergency medicine that has many years of bedside teaching experience with medical students, off-service residents from other UPMC training programs, and Emergency Medicine residents, including EM residents from the Penn State Hershey program.

Our objective is to produce empathetic, clinically excellent, EM physicians with a focus on resident well-being in a community ED setting. We aim to train EM physicians who are capable of practicing not only in Central Pennsylvania, but anywhere in the world. Our graduating residents will possess the tools necessary to achieve lifelong learning in Emergency Medicine, as well as a solid clinical background that will facilitate continued training and advancement in whatever clinical setting (community or academic), role, or subspecialty they choose to pursue.

    • UPMC Harrisburg Hospital: Primary training site with an urban setting
    • UPMC Community Osteopathic Hospital: Community training site in suburban Harrisburg
    • Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center: Tertiary pediatric experiences
    • R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center: Dedicated rotation at world-renowned trauma center
    • UPMC Presbyterian Hospital: Trauma and quaternary care EM experiences in Pittsburgh
  • Diverse and experienced clinical faculty with years of hands-on clinical care
  • Varied didactics that incorporate small group learning and simulation
  • Strong Institutional support for Graduate Medical Education with a growing list of training programs and fellowships in UPMC Central PA sites

We are looking for residents who are passionate about emergency medicine and who are interested in being a part of a small, close knit EM program that is trail blazing the future of emergency medicine at UPMC Harrisburg.
