Welcome to Emergency Medicine at UPMC Harrisburg! We are an experienced teaching institution, and have been striving to provide the highest quality education to medical students for over 10 years.
Our EM program is looking for hard-working students with a passion for emergency medicine. Students at UPMC Harrisburg are an integral part of our team and participate in all aspects of patient care. Our electronic medical record, EPIC, allows students to do everything from image review to order placement to documentation. Our group of emergency medicine residents and attending physicians are enthusiastic about education and committed to supporting students throughout their educational experience.
In order to complement the clinical experience, we provide weekly interactive educational conferences and monthly simulation labs to teach procedures and critical care medicine. In addition, students will receive experience via thorough training sessions and dedicated ultrasound shifts. Students will also gain insight into the critical world of Medication-Assisted Treatment by spending time in our addiction medicine clinic.
The practice of emergency medicine can be intense sometimes, so we build in time to recuperate and reflect on your experiences. Central Pennsylvania offers a variety of ways to enjoy your downtime. Harrisburg is the 4th biggest metro area in Pennsylvania, with an urban feel that has loads of restaurants, breweries, interesting museums, and nearby Hershey Park. However, the surrounding area also provides plenty of sites for nature lovers between the Appalachian Trail and the beautiful Susquehanna River. It offers the best of both worlds.
